The technical visit in TurkuThe technical visit in Turku was a great success. The City of Turku has had a Public Transport system for quite a long time ago, as it was actually founded in 1890, with horse-drawn trams. Electric trams was then in use at the beginning of the 20 th century, then buses until the Transport system was reorganized in 1994. The City of Turku might be the first city city in the world to have started using a contactless card in 1991, the Turku never ceased to evolve until now, with the complete redefinition of the ticketing system. The new system will allow custolmers who use Public Transport to benefit from a whole range of new services, such as theatre bookings, hotel reservations, internet purchasing and reloading of cards, and mobile phone applications... Once again, this visit allowed CLUB members to learn about the experience of one of the pioneers of contactless cards. As you will read in the presentations on our web site, what is striking about the Turku Public Transport policy is the will for constant innovation and updating of the ticketing system. What is also impressive, is the strong collaboration between the Public Transport office and the various city authorities, such as City Hall and Tourist Office. A collaboration that made possible one of the most interesting visits offered to CLUB members. |
